The NovaStar MX40 Pro has 20 1G Ethernet ports, and 4 fibre outputs that copy them. At 8-bit and 60 Hz a port carries 450,000 pixels and the unit 9 million. At 10-bit that is 337,500 a port and 6.75 million a unit. One unit outputs an image up to 16,384 × 16,384 pixels. On 500 mm P2.6 panels (192 × 192) that is 12 panels a port and 240 a unit, up to a 20 × 11 wall (32'-9 11/16" × 18'-0 9/16", 3840 × 2112).
| Bit depth | Per port | Per unit | P2.6 panels a port | P2.9 panels a port | P3.9 panels a port | P2.6 panels a unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8-bit | 450,000 | 9,000,000 | 12 | 15 | 27 | 240 |
| 10-bit | 337,500 | 6,750,000 | 9 | 11 | 20 | 180 |
| 12-bit | 225,000 | 4,500,000 | 6 | 7 | 13 | 120 |
From NovaStar's MX40 Pro V1.5.1 datasheet. A figure the sheet prints at a bit depth is used as printed; one printed only at 8-bit is rescaled by the bits a pixel takes on the wire, and frame rate scales it linearly. The unit's total is the smaller of its ports added up and its stated maximum. Panels a port are whole 500 × 500 mm panels; a dash means the unit does not take that bit depth.
